About Gbedema

Gbedema is a major Builsa South community represented in the district analytical report through localities including Gbedema-Dabomsa, Gbedema Kunkwa and Gbedema Golluk.

This starter profile is intentionally concise. Community historians and stewards should expand it with oral histories, clans, traditional leadership, place-name knowledge, photographs and locally verified sources.

Origins, history and community change

Origins & settlement traditions

University of Ghana research records an account in which Gbedema was later founded by immigrants from the Mamprusi area who settled among Builsa communities under the leadership of Afina. The account should be treated as one research-documented tradition and reviewed with Gbedema custodians.

Development history

Recent development reporting includes a six-unit GETFund classroom block commissioned in 2026 and continuing work on the Gbedema-Wiaga road corridor. These contemporary items should sit alongside, not replace, the community’s deeper historical and cultural record.
